From The TV IV
New Amsterdam is a crime drama that aired on FOX. The series stars Nikolaj Coster Waldau as a brilliant detective in New York named John Amsterdam. Amsterdam was once a Dutch colonial soldier in 1642, but when he saved the life of a native girl, she bestowed the gift of immortality upon him until he finds his true love.
The series was originally slated to premiere at the head of the Fall 2007 season and was one of the network's most marketed shows. However, a little over a month before the season kicked off, New Amsterdam was shuffled to the midseason due in part to the success of the summer karaoke game show, Don't Forget the Lyrics!.
