Biography

Nancy McCarthy is an American stage and television actress.

She is best known for her role as Bunny in the original black and white TV pilot of Gilligan's Island entitled Marooned. However, the creator/producer Sherwood Schwartz, after many network problems decided to change three of the characters and recast them. During the 1960's, she appeared in television episodes of Surfside 6, Lock Up, Adventures in Paradise, The Donna Reed Show, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis and had a recurring role as Laurie Burns on My Three Sons. Off-Broadway, she appeared as Dixie Evans in The Big Knife at the Seven Arts Playhouse which starred Carroll O'Connor and was directed by Peter Bogdanovich. She acted in several live television plays produced in New York including Moment of Fear with Robert Redford on the Alfred Hitchcock Presents series. She appeared as Maggie (the Marilyn Monroe character) in the Los Angeles production of After the Fall, played Flirt in Dark at the Top of the Stairs with Sylvia Sydney at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts and acted in several regional theater productions including The Boy Friend at the Pittsburgh Playhouse.

McCarthy retired from acting in 1972 after suffering a back injury, but continued to work as a print and fashion model and in the advertising field. She received her BFA in Drama from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). She is married and currently lives outside of California.
