Whatever Happened to Ernie? is the twenty-fourth episode of the twelfth season of My Three Sons, and the three hundred eightieth episode overall.

Plot Overview

In what happened to be the final episode of the series, Steve's neighbors, Bob and Sylvia Anderson, come to him asking for advice in dealing with their rebellious son, Gordon, a classmate of Ernie's who has been acting up lately and they don't know why. Steve suggests that Gordon's behavior is consistent with that of a drug user and urges his friends to confirm those suspicions.

Notes

• As with most TV series of the era, My Three Sons was canceled in the spring, after production of first-run programs had ended for the year. Unlike these days where long-running shows announce their final season ahead of time ... and thus allow a true series finale to air, "Whatever Happened to Ernie?" – despite its rather controversial plot relative to the series – was an otherwise run-of-the-mill episode.
