Behind the Scenes
- The killer was originally going to be the real life killer Zodiac, but FOX would not allow them to use an actual serial killer. It was initially changed to Omega, but due to Henriksen's endorsement of the watch manufacturer of the same name, the name Avatar was finally settled on.
Allusions and References
- Although the name of the killer was changed, Avatar still has several characteristics in common with the Zodiac killer:
- Wore black hood and robes
- Operated in San Francisco
- Often murdered couples
- Police came their closest to catching him in the immediate aftermath of the murder a cab driver
- Had an affinity for the play The Mikado
- Sent ciphered messages to the police
- Was never caught or identified
