  • Her mother, Phynjuar is a stage actress and her father, Dennis is a member of R&B band Kool & the Gang
  • Grew up in Montclair, New Jersey
  • Was named "Miss Talented Teen New Jersey" in Hal Jackson's Talented Teen pageant
  • Was named "International Queen" in 1985 at the International competition in Montego Bay, Jamaica
  • Graduated from West Essex High School in 1987
  • Diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer called an intra-abdominal desmoplastic small-round-cell tumor
  • Refused to undergo treatments for her condition because she was concerned that it would interfere with her chances of conceiving children
  • In the spring of 1998, she underwent surgery to remove a lemon-sized tumor before she landed a role on "The Young and the Restless"
  • Underwent a second surgery in October of 1998 after a second cancerous growth ruptured
  • Had to leave "Family Matters" during its last season after her cancer got worse which made it hard for her to do her scenes
  • Dated Malcolm-Jamal Warner who was by her side when she died
  • Received an NAACP Image Award nomination for her performance on "The Young and the Restless" prior to her death
