  • Studied in the dramatic arts programs at Wilmington College (Ohio)
  • Attended Florida A&M University, but left the school a few credits shy of graduation; he eventually received his Bachelor's Degree in theatre arts in 1993
  • Worked as a State House reporter for AM radio station WIFE in Indianapolis under the on-air name "Bruce Thomas"
  • Was the host of a community-affairs program on television station WLWI under the name "Bruce Taylor"
  • Was married to Sandra Taylor from 1969 to 1980; they have one child
  • Was married to actress Bianca Ferguson from 1984 until his death; they have three children
  • He is survived by his wife, children, mother, siblings and four grandchildren
