Marx Brothers
The Marx Brothers is the collective name of a comedy team who started in New York's Vaudeville in the early 20th century and came to Hollywood to appear in the early "talkies." Such films as Animal Crackers, Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera were box office smashes and are still considered comedy classics today. Both collectively and separately, they had many television appearances in television's Golden Age. The three Marx Brothers who were still active at the time television came about were:
A fourth brother, Zeppo Marx, appeared in such early films as The Cocoanuts and Monkey Business as the straight man, but he had retired to become a manufacturer by the mid-1930s. Still another brother, Gummo Marx, left even before the team made the jump from Vaudeville to film.
