Spooks is a glamourised but gritty dramatization of life inside a fictional department of the United Kingdom's Special Intelligence Service, also known as MI-5. The team, operating from 'The Grid' in Thames House, London, have to deal with terrorist bomb threats, hostage takers, hackers and political corruption, as well as internal moles and inter-departmental rivalry. Its stories often have an eerie resonance with real life events.
In the US it is aired as MI-5 due to worries about the word Spooks being misinterpreted as a racial slur.
