Lucky Louie is a sitcom that airs on HBO. It has much in common with other family sitcoms, except this show uses profanity. It is largely based off of Louie C.K.'s stand-up comedy routine and attempts to expand those stand-up jokes into episodes of the sitcom, as had been done previously by Ray Romano on Everybody Loves Raymond and Tim Allen in Home Improvement.

Because the show was broadcast on HBO, Lucky Louie was not subject to censorship, which allowed C.K. to include profanity, smoking marijuana on screen and nudity without any repercussion. The series was also taped in front of a live studio audience in order to capture the feel of a normal sitcom. However, the series was cancelled in November 2006.
