Life on Mars is a combination of time travel, cop-buddy and police procedural-type show. Sam Tyler is a modern day (2008) police officer in Manchester, England. While hunting for a kidnapper, he is struck by a vehicle and "wakes up" in 1973. Sam is unsure if he has actually traveled through time, is insane, or simply hallucinating everything. He hopes that by figuring out why he is in 1973, he can figure out how to return to the modern day.
The series is followed by Ashes to Ashes.
