[edit] The Show

  • Ripped From The Headlines: The story of this episode was inspired by the shooting of Jason Mizzel, otherwise known as Jam Master Jay, one of the founding members of Run-D.M.C.
  • Final Appearance: This episode marks Elizabeth Rohm's final appearance as Asst. D.A. Serena Southerlyn. Her departure mid-season is not entirely unprecedented, however. Paul Sorvino left the series mid-season 12 years prior.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

[edit] Allusions and References

  • Jam Master Jay: Jam Master Jay (originally Jason Mizzel) was one of the pioneers of hip hop. He was the DJ behind Run-D.M.C. and was also responsible for their look and most of their music. After the group went their separate ways, Jay remained as a figure of the community, beginning schools and record labels in order to nurture new talent. He was shot on October 30, 2002 in a New York recording studio. The episode parallels many pieces of Jay's life, particularly his death. Unfortunately, unlike the case on the episode, Jay's killer has not been found, although his death has been connected with popular hip-hop artist 50 Cent.

[edit] Memorable Moments

  • Branch firing Serena Southerlyn and her completely out of place retort.

[edit] Quotes

  • Branch: You're fired.
Serena: Is this because I'm a lesbian?
