Plot Overview
Billy Pardee makes an unsuccessful attempt at robbing the Wells Fargo office in Laramie, killing the deputy sheriff in the process. When Pardee's partners attempt to break him out of jail, Sheriff Cory is wounded and presses Slim Sherman into service as acting sheriff with Jess Harper as his deputy. It's a job that Slim doesn't want but there's nobody else to protect Laramie from Tom Creighton, outlaw leader out to make sure that Billy doesn't hang for murder. With most of the townsfolk afraid to stand against Creighton, the odds are against Slim and Jess living long enough to carry out the execution an hour after dawn.
