La Academia is a competition reality series similar to Star Academy. Each season a group of young people are put into an "academy" where they are cut off from the rest of the world to work to become a singing star. Similar to Pop Idol and its offspring, contestants are voted off by the viewing audience each week until there is one left.
Currently there is a spinoff, La Academia USA, being produced by Azteca América which will run only in the U.S. for the Hispanic audience.
