From The TV IV

Kojak (1973) and Kojak (2005) both tell the story of a police detective named Theo Kojak, although the similarities pretty much end there. The 2005 Kojak series, which starred Ving Rhames in the role of Kojak was essentially a "re-imagining" of the original 1973 series, which starred Telly Savalas in the title role.
