Keynotes is a musical game show piloted for syndication. It went unsold but it would eventually be adapted for British and Australian television.

Two teams of three contestants participated. Two members of each team come up front. In front are nine numbered boxes. The member of the returning team draws an envelope which shows which box is in play then three words are displayed. A snippet of a song is played with the last word, one of the three displayed, left out. A player buzzing in must identify the word. Doing so correctly places a musical note in that box. The teams are spotted two boxes in advance. The notes in those boxes are played. Play continues until a team correctly identifies the song being played from those notes. Doing so wins them $500.

First team to $1000 wins and goes on to the bonus round. The team stops a randomizer to select which box is in play this time, then within 25 elapsed seconds hears snippets of songs and picks which of three words belongs in the song. Correct answers earn a note in the selected box. At the end of 25 seconds, the notes are played. The team tries to identify the song for a $5000 payoff.
