- Her mother, Patricia worked for Jet magazine and her father, Ervin was the manager of a telephone company
- Has a younger sister, Marti and a younger brother, Donte
- Her middle name is pronounced as "Sha-neen"
- Didn't talk when she was a toddler, but when her father enrolled her into a theater program where she came out of her shell
- Her first professional job was in an insurance company
- Was a model for several years
- Performed in professional theater in plays such as "The Colored Museum", "Goin' Home" and "Butterfinger's Angel"
