KHNL is the NBC affiliate in Honolulu, Hawaii. It broadcasts on digital channel 8, displaying via PSIP as virtual channel 13. The station also operates satellite outlets KOGG in Wailuku (on Maui) and KHBC in Hilo (on the Island of Hawaii). Its digital subchannel 8.2 carries independent station KFVE (whose intellectual unit was retained by owner Gray Television after the former KFVE was sold to Nexstar Media Group and was recalled as KHII-TV in January 2019) while 8.3 carries classic TV network Antenna TV.

History

KHNL signed on in 1962 as independent station KTRG. In 1967 the station changed calls to KIKU and began a hybrid mix of English and Japanese programming. By 1981 the station shifted back to regular independent programming and later changed calls to KHNL in 1984. KHNL would later join the Fox network in 1986, up until its 1996 network swap with KHON, which took the Fox affiliation and KHNL picking up the NBC affiliation. KHNL had been owned by Raycom Media since 2004 and shares news and operations with CBS affilate KGMB and My Network TV affiliate KFVE. The station is now owned by Gray Television, which acquired Raycom in 2019.
