Plot Overview

A man serving a life sentence for murder who claims he's innocent hires Judd to handle his appeal, citing the incompetence of his previous counsel. Judd finds the first lawyer, Ira Creighton, a weak alcoholic who couldn't handle the pressure and walked out of the trial to get a drink and never came back. Judd finds a way to both clear his client and salvage Creighton's dignity at the same time.
