[edit] Biography
Jorge Garcia was born on April 28, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska. Of Chilean descent, Garcia's mother, Dora, taught Spanish and his father, Humberto, is a retired medical doctor. At the age of 3, Garcia and his family moved to Orange County, California and Garcia was raised there in San Juan Capistrano. Garcia attended the University of California, Los Angeles and graduated with a degree in communications. He considered becoming a filmmaker, but found acting to be more appealing and began taking acting classes. While trying to find acting work, Garcia did stand-up comedy at night. However, the small roles he was able to get weren't enough to making a living on and Garcia took a job selling books at Borders while continuing to perfect his craft at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Garcia now resides in Hawaii with his girlfriend Malia Hansen.
While taking classes at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, Garcia eventually got a brief part on Spin City in 2001. About two years later, Garcia won a part on a sitcom pilot that never aired, but it helped him land a one-time appearance on the HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. The small role won him the chance to audition for a role on CBS' Becker which Garcia managed to land. As Becker headed into its final season, Garcia auditioned for the Lost pilot and was cast as Hugo "Hurley" Reyes.
