Plot Overview

Black activist Robert Phillips is accused of murdering a shopkeeper he held a grudge against during a riot instigated by Phillips at the man's store. Ironside believes in Phillips's innocence, but his racist anti-white and anti-police demagoguery hinders the Chief's investigation, as do several of Phillips' equally-racist colleagues, who hurl racial insults at Mark (including calling him an "Uncle Tom") and essentially accuse him of being a "race traitor" for his work with Ironside, and also attempt to close ranks by staging anti-police protests and refusing to co-operate with the SFPD in finding out who really killed the store owner.

Notes

Trivia

  • Ron Pinkard, who later went on to his most well-known role as Dr. Mike Morton on Emergency!, had an uncredited role in this episode as an undercover SFPD officer masquerading as one of the protesters
