John Munch is a main character in Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He is a detective in Manhattan's special victims unit played by Richard Belzer. Munch's career as a sex crimes detective is a continuation of his previous police career in Philadelphia when he was assigned to homicide investigation.
