Plot Overview
German war hero Captain Hugo Hauptman has been supplying Hogan with some information. Hogan goes to a house where Hauptman informs Hogan that the Gestapo is starting to suspect that he is giving information to the Allies. He wants Hogan to arrange for him to get out of Germany. Hauptman has some more vital information, but he will not reveal it until he is safely out of Germany. Hogan promises to arrange it. Hogan no sooner left Hauptman then the Gestapo brakes into Hauptman's house to arrest him. Days pass as Hogan is informed that Captain Hauptman had been arrested and will be put on trial for espionage and treason. Trial will be taking place at Stalog 13 to avoid public outrage over one of their war heroes being accused of treason. Klink is appointed to be Hauptmans lawyer (actually he was place there by Burhalter who is to be the prosecuting attorney). Klink is not given any information in Hauptman's defense since the German High Command has already found him guilty of treason. Hogan talks to Klink about Hauptman and gets Klink to let him talk to Hauptman about his case. Hogan sends Newkirk and according to Hauptman, he had learned that his secretary was secretly a Gestapo agent who had gathered information on Hauptman using a secret tape recorder with Hauptman talking relaying vital information to the Allies. Learning of this, Hogan comes up with a plan to discredit the secretary, making the recording seem like fakes and having the secretary arrested for attempting to frame Hauptman. The plan works and Hauptman is exonerated.
