Plot Overview
McGarrett and the Five-O team must travel to the island of Hawaii to find a deranged scientist in order to find out where he has planted two powerful bombs. The scientist, who is in debt to loan sharks and in need of money, has demanded to the state government in Honolulu that he be paid $500,000 or he will detonate the bombs to cause a volcanic eruption that would destroy the city of Hilo and wipe out half the island. Bernie Brown, the extortionist in question, keeps Five-O distracted by pretending to help them in their investigation while not letting on that he is the man they are looking for, at the same time hindering them by planting land mines in the area around where the bombs are located to keep McGarrett and company from getting to them. However, Bernie's wife, Doris, has had enough of her husband's poor choices and plans to pull a double-cross on him.
Meanwhile, after Bernie manages to get the money in a briefcase, the loan shark he owes $72,500 to arrives and shoots him, takes the briefcase and attempts to flee, but he gets stopped when Dan arrives in a helicopter and arrests him. McGarrett goes to Bernie and asks him how the bombs can be defused, but Bernie dies before he can say anything, forcing Five-O to go to the bomb site, find the bombs and disarm them before they go off and trigger the eruption.
