The Sound of Quacking is the seventh episode of the first season of Gilligan's Island.

Plot Overview

The Castaways discover a lost duck.Gilligan adopts the duck,and names it Everett.He would later renamed it Emily when he finds out that he is a she.The Duck could not have come at a best,or worst time.The Professor discovers that the Island is running low on Food Supply,and especially Plants that may be poisoned.Desperate for food,the Castaways including The Skipper attempt to kill,and cook Gilligan's Duck.Gilligan will keep watch over Emily day,and night,with a club.One night Gilligan dreams that he is in the old West(a parody of the Gunsmoke Series)where he is Marshal Gilligan,protecting his Duck Emily from those who would eat her.The Skipper a Cesterlike Deputy secretly plots to eat her.This is discovered when Gilligan finds a fork,and a knife in the Deputies back pocket.He fires him.Ginger enters the Marshal's Office to try to seduce,get the Marshal drunk,and open the cage door,and have herself a duck dinner.The Marshal rebuff's her advances.Mary Ann comes into the Jail to warn Gilligan about the Lynch Mob coming down the street to eat Emily.Gilligan let's Emily out to fly away,while he Gilligan marches down the street to face the two men who would kill him to get his duck.Before that however,Mrs. Howell appears around a corner to give Gilligan a gun to help him out,since he had'nt had one.She also has in her possession,a jar of Duck Gravy.She probably figures Gilligan would lose the gun fight that will soon take place.Marching down the street,Gilligan comes face to face with lynch members Mr.Howell,and the Professor.They draw first emptying their gun apparently into Gilligan.However,all of the shots miss.Gilligan then draws,and tells them to 'git '.They run,and as Mary Ann runs towards him to congratulate him,Gilligan celebrating his victory fires two shots into the air,unwittingly killing Emily who was flying over head.This wakes Gilligan from his sleep.The Skipper with hatchet in hand comes to kill Emily.He reasons that the Duck is their only hope of survival.Gilligan volunteers to kill Emily.Meanwhile,the guilt-ridden Castaways try to justify their reasonings for the sacrifice of the Duck.But,surprize,Gilligan had not killed the Duck.The Castaways are relieved.Even more so,the plants in which Emily is feeding off are not poisonous as the Professor had thought were earlier.The Castaways will live.Emily the Duck for whom the Castaways had earlier tried,and failed to use as a homing pigeonlike messenger to carry a message back to the states is ready to deliver.Unfortunately,Gilligan forgets to attache a the note to Emily.And,so goes another rescue attempt.
