Gigantor is the English-dubbed American adaptation of Tetsujin 28-Go or Iron Man 28, a Japanese science fiction anime series that is notable for being the first anime in which a giant robot is employed to fight evil. In the year 2000 when the armies of the world are stretched too thin to combat the overwhelming forces of terrorism, criminals and aliens, a virtually indestructable robot named Gigantor is built to save the world.
The series was the inspiration for virtually every mecha anime series and spawned several sequels and remakes, including: Tetsujin 28th, Tetsujin 28-go FX and New Gigantor.
