George of the Jungle (1967) is an animated comedy. Each episode featured three segments: George of the Jungle, Tom Slick and Super Chicken.

George was the Tarzan-like hero of Africa's Mgwegwe province, even though he was prone to running into trees while swinging on vines, and unable to tell that Shep was an elephant (to George, Shep is a "big-nosed, peanut-loving puppy," and Shep acts accordingly so). Ape is a British-speaking renaissance primate, and much smarter than George. Ursula is George's mate, who he usually calls "Fella" during bouts of stupidity.

Super Chicken follows the crime-fighting exploits of millionaire playboy Henry Cabot Henhouse III, who becomes Super Chicken after drinking Super Sauce (a potation of dubious quality). Fred, his companion, is a lion.

Tom Slick is a hero race car driver, creator of the Thunderbolt Grease Slapper, which can be converted for any terrain. Assisting him is his girlfriend Marigold and mechanic Gertie Growler. Attempting to thwart Tom in many races is the evil Baron Otto Matic and his stooge Clutcher.

George of the Jungle is a cult favorite but was the first show to lose money for the Jay Ward studio. That was due to the show attracting an adult audience on Saturday mornings, where advertisers covet the 2-to-11 age bracket.
