Basic Information
Essentially Mal's sidekick during the War of Unification (and Mal's brains by proxy, judging by flashbacks), Zoe Alleyne served with Malcolm Reynolds through most of the war, including the climactic Battle of Serenity Valley. After the war, Zoe stayed with Mal and the two bought a Firefly-class mid-bulk transport (a purchase which Zoe was initially none too happy about) with the intention of running cargoes of dubious legality. One of the first hired crewmembers was pilot Hoban "Wash" Washburne, whom Zoe took an instant dislike to upon their first meeting.
Her misgivings about Wash apparently didn't last, because she later married him.
Aboard Serenity, Zoe serves as Mal's second in command, generally backing him up with her signature weapon, a sawed-off lever action rifle. Zoe also apparently continues to serve as the brains of the operation and a voice of reason, not that reason tends to have any place on Serenity.
