Plot Overview

Paramedic John Gage gets hung up watching an episode of Adam-12 on TV and obsesses with what happened after he misses the ending due to a rescue call. Dixie McCall listens in on his situation, about his favorite show, while taking this call with Roy. The Station 51 crew also rescues a cat burglar caught in a ventilation duct, Dr. Brackett deals with a careless patient in a leg cast who has reinjured the same leg in a surfing accident, the Rampart staff break up a brawl between two patients, Dixie's tired of all the nonsense happening in the hospital, someplace else and Station 51 is called to deal with a fire and radiation leak at a laboratory and rescue a doctor caught in the lab fire. Because of the involvement of radioactive materials in that fire call, Rampart's emergency department has to set up radiation protocols to deal with the situation.

Behind the Scenes

  • As mentioned above, the Station 51 crew are shown watching Adam-12 before a rescue call, then Gage mentions that show's characters Pete Malloy and Jim Reed while discussing the episode with DeSoto while returning from Rampart Hospital. This is a continuity goof, as characters from both Emergency! and Adam-12 have made crossover appearances on each other's shows and have interacted with each other, with Malloy and Reed appearing in the Emergency! pilot "The Wedworth-Townsend Act" and Emergency!'s main cast appearing in the Adam-12 episode "Lost and Found" (which aired after "Hang Up")
