Elvis Presley was an American musician born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was best known for his dozens of pop music hits, including Hound Dog, Love Me Tender and Don't Be Cruel, and for his dominance of the music charts and pop culture itself from the 1950s through his death in the 1970s and beyond. His appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and his television specials Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special and Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii are among the most famous musical moments in television history. He died in Memphis, Tennessee on August 16, 1977 of a cardiac arrhythmia.
