- Although it was originally produced in 1966 as the pilot for a revival of the original Dragnet, Dragnet 1966 did not air on TV until 1969, about midway through the show's third season. After seeing this movie, NBC executives ordered the revival to series during the 1966-67 season as a mid-season replacement for recently-cancelled sitcom The Hero
