Dora the Explorer is an animated children's educational program that airs on Nickelodeon.
The series centers around a Latina girl named Dora Marquez with a love of embarking on quests related to an activity in which she would like to partake or some place that she wants to go, accompanied by her talking purple backpack and anthropomorphic monkey best friend Boots (who is named for his beloved pair of red boots).
In 2013, Nickelodeon announced a spin-off titled Dora and Friends: Into the City!, which stars the Latino heroine as a 10-year-old who goes on adventures in the city with her friends, who call themselves The Explorer Girls, along with a male friend named Pablo. The series premiered on August 20, 2014.
