Trivia

The Show

  • This marks the exit of Turlough and the introduction of Peri. It also marks the destruction of Kamelion.

Behind the Scenes

  • The Kamelion model proved troublesome and it was made to have morphed into the Master and Howard Foster in order to avoid bringing the prop in. Malfunctions plagued the prop since its introduction. Davison later recounted that the Doctor's look of sorrow and remorse at having to kill it was purely acting on his part, as he was genuinely glad to be done with the prop.
  • This serial was the last contributions for writer Peter Grimwade and director Fiona Cumming in the series.
  • Peri's passport was just a recycled prop used by Dallas Adams in another production. This can be seen when one pauses on close-ups of it.
  • The Master was originally supposed to be killed off due to Anthony Ainley's contract expiring. His last words "Won't you show mercy to your own..." Producer John Nathan-Turner said that the line was to end with "brother." However, the word was never said by Ainley in any take captured on video, leaving fans to speculate as to how the line was to end.
