Densha Otoko is a dramatic live-action program from Japan based on the best-selling book detailing a sequence of events where an otaku meets an attractive woman and then begins to woo her based on the advice of strangers from an Internet message board.
Tsuyoshi Yamada is your typical introverted otaku, picked on by everyone from his supervisor at work to his little sister. So it's much to his surprise when a drunk old man harasses some women on the train, and Yamada stands up to him! He doesn't think it means much, until one of the women sends him a very nice thank you gift — an expensive set of tea cups. He doesn't know what to make of this unexpected present, so he consults the residents of A-Channel, a message board for the lonely geeks of Japan. They think it's a sign, and so begin to advise "Densha Otoko" ("Train Man") on how to get the girl.
