Plot Overview

Dominic and Homicide investigate the in-custody death of Vincent Marx. While looking for the suspect, questions are raised on Regan's involvement in the original investigation that convicted Marx.

Meanwhile, Patricia tries to have one of Morris's cases, a "death by fear" incident involving an old woman, ruled as a homicide.

Happenings

  • Following on her research, Patricia uses a case of an elderly woman being scared to death from an intruder breaking into her home as a homicide. When Morris rules as it as natural, she takes it to Sergeant Kurtz from Robbery. Bob Kelly wants Kosmo to pursue a homicide charge against a robbery suspect.
  • After learning Regan visited Kowaloski, Dominic, Leo, and Mick fear that Regan fed information. Dominic questions Regan about his visit and the nature of Kowaloski's testimony. Regan continues to deny feeding him information, even after prints taken from Myers's personal effects match the one on the tarp from Marquetti. With all evidence leading to Billy Mitchell, anyway, Leo and Mick fear going to Interal.
  • Regan kills himself and in his recorded statement, continues to assert Vincent Marx was guilty.
  • Shelia Kurtz from Robbery is made temporary acting sergeant of Homicide.
  • With the woman's grandson in custody, Kurtz drops the death-by-fear angle and instead wants to tackle 28 missing prostitutes as homicides.

Characters

  • Dominic is seen at home hesitantly having a drink.

Quotes

  • Regan: (from tape) First of all, no one is responsible for my suicide. All of my personal effects are in my desk in my office. There's a will that explains who to contact and what I want done with my remains. I did my job to the best of my abilities. I would never do anything to jeopardise the integrity of my position. I believe now, as I've always believed, that Vincent Marx is guilty. I've always tried to do the right thing, and I always did what was required. And anybody who doesn't believe me can kiss my ass.
