The Last Episode Ever is the sixth episode of Clerks and the last episode of both the season and the series. After perceiving a backlash against being so unlike the movie, Dante and Randal spend the entire episode inside the store. But when a fair opens across the street from the store, it seems like what's happening outside the store is far more interesting than what's going on inside.

Trivia

The Show

  • Full Title: The Last Episode Ever
  • Disclaimer End: "I don't care for this show either."
  • Writers Room: When Dante and Randal open the writers room door, many crew members are represented on screen: Kevin Smith is reading the bible with Scott Mosier next to him, Dave Mandel is sleeping in the recliner, Brian Kelly is playing the video game and Steve Lukner has the book written by Seth MacFarlane.

Behind the Scenes

  • Sneak: When Kevin Smith showed this episode at the San Diego Comic Con, someone asked a question that was nearly identical to the Batman costume wearing fan's question in the exact same room where they showed the episode.
  • Back to Basics: The original idea for the episode was to do the entire episode in black and white, but that was shut down by the network. They later decided to not let Randal and Dante leave the counter, which was eventually expanded so that the two would not leave the store, no matter how much excitement is going on outside.
  • Notes: This episode received the most notes from the network, but eventually they gave up and let the writers go with their script even though they didn't get it. One legal note they did get was that they couldn't use the exact Josie and the Pussycats costumes. Additionally, the "Naked Robber" joke was originally said to be Steve Allen's favorite game, but because Allen is still alive and is apparently notoriously litigious, ABC refused to let the show use his name. Since Gene Roddenberry is deceased, they didn't have a problem with the substitute.
  • Live Action: The last shot, where Jay and Silent Bob are revealed to be drawing the cartoon all along, was initially meant to be shot live action but because they were out of money and the animation looked good, they decided against it.
