Category Name

I think this should be named Science-Fiction Comedy or something similar just to maintain conformity with the one in the Drama page. --Wizardryo 01:23, 16 Sep 2005 (EDT)

I think it shouldn't exist, we have separate Sci-Fi and Comedy categories. If we made a new category for every permutation of the "base" ones, things would get downright unwieldy. In turn it would make sense to move Sci-Fi, etc out of Drama as they aren't necissarily dramas.--Hai-Etlik 08:16, 25 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Not really. Science fiction isn't its own genre, it belongs right where it is. It doesn't deserve its own Program category any more than Mystery or any of the other drama/comedy/whatever subsects. --Hawkman 10:28, 25 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Well that's just it, Sci-Fi isn't a subset of Drama, otherwise we wouldn't have a "Sci-Fi Comedy" category. Trying to fit everything into one nice neat tree is not going to work out very well. If we subdivide Drama we get things like "Mystery" and "Soap Opera", if we subdivide Sci-fi we get things like "Cyberpunk" and "Space Opera", if we subdivide Comedy we get categories like "Sitcom" and "Sketch Comedy". Does that mean we need "Cyberpunk Soap Opera" and "Space Opera Sitcom"? Multiple trees, with a show being able to belong to nodes from multiple trees seems like it would categorize shows more effectively. A show could be a Drama: Mystery and a Speculative Fiction: Sci-Fi: Space Opera. This isn't saying "Drama" and "Sci-Fi" (or SF) are equal (whatever that means) because they are both the tops of trees, all it says is that membership in one is independent of membership in the other.--Hai-Etlik 05:08, 30 Sep 2005 (EDT)
