Plot Overview
Rare coin dealer Emerson Cartwheel is found dead backstage at a coin auction moments before he was to participate in the auction, strangled with a silver dollar pressed against his throat. Burke, Les and Tim travel to Epitaph Flats, the desert town that Cartwheel ran, and soon run afoul of the sexy sheriff, who jails them for not wearing Western garb. They 'break out' of jail, lock the sheriff in a cell (Burke charms her out of the keys) and visit a number of townsfolk, all of whom seem to have a motive for murder. A visit to the morgue--the town's newspaper morgue--gives Burke a motive, or rather $100,000 worth of motive, when he learns about a long-unsolved robbery.
Notes
The apprehension of the killer doesn't go so smoothly--in fact, the killer engages a couple of cronies to start a barroom brawl with Burke and Tim, the kind of brawl that wouldn't seem out of place on a show like...Bat Masterson?
