  • Piltdown Man: A famous scientific hoax, Piltdown Man was the name given to fossil fragments "discovered" in the early 1900s and claimed to be the remains of a form of early man. In 1953 it was exposed as a forgery fashioned from a medieval human skull, an orangutan jaw, and chimpanzee teeth.
