Plot Overview

A scuffle in a club has Bones kicking a guy into a wall revealing the remains of a mummified corpse. The corpse appears to have asphyxiated by breathing in crystal meth six weeks ago, mummified by hot air convection in the walls. Drawing from a fingerprint, they identify the body as Roy Taylor, also known as DJ Mount.

Breaking into the wall, they find footprints and a blood smear on the wall along with a piece of jewelry found to be a belly button ring inscribed with 'Love Rulz'. Although they originally thought the victim had become trapped and panicked inhaling the meth, they instead suspect he was smothered because of polyethylene from a plastic bag found in his eyes and around his mouth. He also has a slight depression in his skull from an impact, but non-fatal.

Notified of a rivalry between DJ Mount and another artist Rulz by Randall Hall, the club owner, they visit him and find that the owner of the belly button ring is his ex-girlfriend Eve. Following a lead that she abandoned her young daughter with her brother, they visit him and find that she hasn't come back for six weeks. Confirming that she was DJ Mount's girlfriend and that they had aims of building a better life with each other, they confiscate some money she left with her brother. The money is found to have traces of Meth on it.

Simulating the crime scene, they show that DJ Mount was following Eve through the narrow crawlspace but he became stuck in the same place she tore out her belly button ring. His head turned back to a pursuer, it became stuck in that position, suggesting that it was the third party who smothered him and not Eve.

Receiving information from Randall Hall's bodyguard, an undercover FBI agent investigating the music scene's gang connections, they question him and he confirms that DJ Mount and Rulz did have a heated rivalry and that Rulz build a studio around the time that they they Eve and DJ Mount disappeared. Using a body sniffing dog, the find Eve's body buried in the foundation of Rulz's studio. Skull fractures suggests she was slammed into a wall while her arm was twisted behind her before she was smothered with a bag laced with meth. Rulz has nerve damage in his hand which would make it impossible for him to have killed her. She also has the same kind of slight depression in her skull that DJ Mount had.

Suspecting Rulz knows something, Booth offers him to put him briefly in jail to improve his street cred. Rulz lets them know that DJ Mount was planning to move to another label but needed money to finance buying out his current contract with Hall. Provoking Hall into touching Booth, they arrest him for assaulting a federal agent and confiscate his cane. The cane is found to have been the source of the depression as he has hit them both with the cane and the information is enough to bring a case against him.

Notes
