As the episode teaser opens, Brennan and Hodgins are in the dark, buried in her car underground. The episode plays with the timeline by showing us the result before the viewer knows anything about why this happened.

After the credits roll, Bones and Booth show up at a crime scene where two young boys have been buried in a tank underground. Both bodies are dried and desiccated, but are quickly identified as two kidnap victims taken by a person known as the Grave Digger.

The team investigates the bodies and is able to obtain some forensic evidence from the bodies before Bones and Hodgins are kidnapped and buried alive in Bones' car by the Grave Digger. A ransom demand for 8 million is made.

Hodgins was injured during the kidnapping and Bones cuts the flesh open to relieve pressure from compartment hemmorage syndrome - a type of break where blood pools and pressure builds up at the site of the injury.

They use the live wires inside the car horn to power a cellphone and send out a short text message to Booth identifying the chemical composition of the dirt they are buried in.

Using that information, Zack is able to determine their location. The team and a number of FBI agents go to the site, a large mine pit and start looking around.

As they are there looking, Booth spots a small dust cloud produced when Bones and Hodges set off the small explosive charge they took from the airbag system of the car.

While trapped in the car with Bones, Hodges confesses that he loves Angela. After he`s out, back in the lab, he tells Angela that he can`t go home and go to sleep because he`s afraid he`ll wake up back in the car, buried. Angela says he can go home with her, and when he wakes up, she`ll be there.
