Plot Overview
Ichigo, Orihime, Uryu, Chad and Yoruichi get through the tunnel despite a close call from the cleaner and arrive in a section of the soul society known as West Rukon. Ichigo foolishly rushes towards the center of the area where he correctly presumes that the soul reapers live but is stopped be the sudden appearance of a massive fence accompanied by an even bigger guardian. The soul reapers gather on the opposite side of the gate and decide that they don't need to get involved since Jidanbou is protecting it.
Yoruichi tells Uryu that they need to defeat Jidanbou, which won't be an easy task considering that Jidanbou hasn't been defeated in the 400 years that he's been in his position. Yoruichi suggests that they stop and make a plan, but Chad and Orihime run off to help Ichigo against the giant before he can gather them together. They're stopped by Jidanbou, who tells them that battles fought in the city are only fought one-on-one. Ichigo tells them to stay put and the he thinks that he may be able to defeat him because of the time he spent training with Urahara.
Ichigo blocks Jidanbou's first blow, something that has only happened twice before. He tries eleven more strikes, but Ichigo survives all of them. Jidanbou breaks out a second axe and motions to attack Ichigo with both, but he destroys both his axes and sends him flying. When Jidanbou notices that his axes have been taken out, he bursts into tears. Ichigo apologizes for destroying both instead of letting him keep one and Jidanbou takes this as an act of kindness which is a rarity in people storming gates. He declares Ichigo the winner and allows him and his companions into the gate.
After lifting the gate, Jidanbou freezes and Gin Ichimari approaches.
