Beat the Clock is a prime-time game show that aired on CBS. It has had numerous revivals since.
It began on radio as Time’s A-Wastin’ in 1946 with Bill Cullen as emcee. It was renamed Beat The Clock a year later and ran to 1949. Goodson and Todman brought it back as a television show in 1950 on CBS. The premise has couples competing to complete stunts in specified time frames as dictated by a sweep-hand clock. A special segment had a member of the couple unscrambling a phrase.
The show ran on CBS prime time to 1956 then moved to daytime. It moved to ABC in 1958 where it ran to 1961. It would be revived in 1969, 1979, 2000 and 2018.
