Shauni McClain is a character on Baywatch, portrayed by Erika Eleniak.

Basic Information

Shauni starts her career as a rookie lifeguard with the Baywatch crew during the show's first season. She is initially scared of people drowning and sometimes freezes up when people need CPR. Her boss at Baywatch, Mitch Buchannon, sees this and decides to put her under the wing of experienced lifeguard Jill Riley. Jill trains Shauni to become confident in her own abilities, also helping her develop the skills she would exhibit later on in her career. The two quickly become the best of friends. When Jill is injured in a shark attack and later dies of her injuries in the hospital, Shauni becomes despondent over Jill's death and she takes some time to adjust to life without her.

During her time at Baywatch, she meets, gets to know and falls for her long term colleague Eddie Kramer. Eventually, after two years of courting, the two get married and move to Australia at the beginning of the show's third season.

Trivia

• Erika Eleniak played Shauni in all 44 episodes of the first and second seasons, as well as appearing in the series pilot "Panic at Malibu Pier" and the first two episodes of the third season. She was the show's female lead from 1989 until 1992. Eleniak later explained that her decision to depart the show was due to her dislike for the direction Baywatch was taking, which was exactly the same reasoning fellow cast member Billy Warlock gave for his departure
