Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Romero gives Rebecca Bob Paris's key.
  • Dylan finds the bunny and letter Audrey left for Emma in Norman's room. Investigating, he learns she checked in at the motel, but never checked out. He writes down the address she provided.

Characters

  • Dylan reveals to Norman about he and Emma.
  • Dylan tells Norma that he's moving to Seattle and with Emma.
  • Prompted by his call with Norma, Caleb calls Dylan and explains why he left and he might return for good once he feels the heat has died down.
  • Under threat from Chick about letting out the information about she and Caleb, which would be detrimental to her marriage, Norma finds where he's staying, but can't bring herself to give him up. She also can't kill Chick, so she breaks down and tells Romero the truth about Caleb. Instead of leaving her, he stands by her.
  • In therapy, Norman, through "Mother", tells Dr Edwards of one night when he was hiding under the bed when his father raped Norma, the two holding each other's hands during the ordeal. The incident might have been the catalyst for Norma's psychosis.

  • After Chick leaves, the package covering on the window goes from being pulled back to draped over the window several times throughout the remainder of the scene.

Quotes

  • Chick: You have something for me?
(Norma takes out a gun and aims it at him before lowering)
Norma: I can't get Caleb killed and I can't kill you, so I'm screwed. I'm screwed! You got me! All I wanted was my freaking window fixed and now you're gonna destroy my life! So just go right ahead. Just go right the hell ahead!
  • Chick: You know what they say, you never know what you're capable of until you're tested. Isn't that right?
Norma: Gee, what are you saying? Are you saying that we all have things "hidden" inside us? Secrets we don't want anyone to know, things that other people might know and hold over your head, even though you personally have done nothing to them?
Romero: I think he was just talking about the window, Norma.
Norma: You're gonna be packing your bags soon, so just - just stay out of it. (to Chick) Go ahead, tough guy. Come on, do what you're gonna do. Okay, break the woman in half. But you know what? I'm not broken. I am still standing. So go ahead. Do your best, you giant, lame asshole!
Chick: I hope you enjoy your new window, Norma Bates.
  • Norma: When I was, um, a teenager... It was a long time ago, um... I slept with my brother. I'm sorry. God, I'm sorry to have to tell you this. Oh, it's horrible. I'm sorry. He's Dylan's father.
Romero: The guy that I had dinner with?
Norma: Caleb, yeah.
Romero: Norma, you - you - you were young. It was a mistake.
Norma: Mistake? It was not a mistake. It was a way of life. It happened for years. I loved him. Our home life was torture and we were all we had. I finally tried to stop it and, um, he got really upset and he raped me. You know how horrible it is to be raped by somebody you love? And I hate him. I hate him. I hate him, but I don't hate him enough to hurt him. And it's a mess because I don't know if part of why I hate Caleb so much is because I hate myself. All in a day's work. So now you know who you're married to. And I should have told you before, but I've never loved anyone enough to feel obligated to be honest with them. And... And I just - I-It sucks. It sucks because I can't hide. And I want to, but I can't. And Chick found out. He met Caleb when he was up at the farm working with Dylan. He - He just figured it out. And he has issues with my brother, and he was trying to find him, and he told me that if I didn't help him that he would tell you all of this, that he would spread it around town, and that he would humiliate you. So... So... I don't know. Just go pack your bag.
Romero: Okay. Where we going?
