[edit] Plot Overview
After alerting the Fire Navy to his and the village's presence by setting off a boobytrap on a derelict ship, Aang is banished from the village by Sokka. Despite Katara's protests and her desire to go with Aang she stays, more out of loyalty to her family than anything. After the Fire Navy makes landfall at the village, Aang returns to turn himself in so that the village will be left alone. After the Fire Navy have left, Katara and Sokka leave with Appa to try and save Aang. On the ship, Aang quickly proves that he isn't entirely helpless by escaping from his captors. Sokka and Katara arrive with Appa on the scene to rescue Aang from the Fire Navy ship, and with some help from Katara's water bending skills they are able to escape.
[edit] Notes
- Aang displays several air bending powers in this episode. He uses his control over air currents to push people around, run on the ceilings and walls, create a ball of air to ride on, and leap long distances. They also come in handy when trying to detect Prince Zuko's fire blasts. Once he retrieves his staff, Aang uses powerful blasts of air to mash Prince Zuko into the walls and ceilings of the cabin.
- This episode also features more of Aang's mysterious Avatar powers. When he falls into the water and hears Katara's cries he displays an impressive mastery of water bending, shooting himself out of the water and using it to clear the desk of fire benders. Afterwards, he collapses as though he has greatly exerted himself.

[edit] Happenings
- Aang and Prince Zuko meet for the first time.
- Aang, Katara and Sokka plan out their journey to get Aang trained in the remaining three disciplines that he lacks.
[edit] Characters
- Prince Zuko: A scarred prince of the Fire Nation, he is determined to find the avatar for some as-of-yet unspecified purpose. According to the price, his honor depends on finding the avatar and he is convinced of his success. This is all despite his father and grandfather's inability to find the Avatar.
- Aang: Aang is a 12 year old Air Bender, the last of his kind. He has been trapped in an iceberg for an unspecified reason for the last hundred years. Due to this exile from the world, Aang has no idea of all that has transpired. He is shocked to hear that the Air Benders are extinct and that there is a war going on.
- Katara: Katara is a Water Bender, one of a few left in her tribe. She is first introduced hunting with her brother Sokka for the other members of her tribe.
- Sokka: Sokka is one of the few remaining males in his tribe, and the oldest by far. The rest left to fight the Fire Nation and have not returned. As such, Sokka feels that he alone is responsible for the protection of the village. This is despite his proven clumsiness and general lack of experience in all things war-like.
