"The long night has come. The Systems Commonwealth, the greatest civilization in history, has fallen. Now one ship, one crew, have vowed to drive back the night and rekindle the light of civilization. On the starship Andromeda, hope lives again."
Andromeda, created by Gene Roddenberry, told the story of the last surviving starship of the Systems Commonwealth, the starship Andromeda Ascendant. The Andromeda Ascendant and its captain, Dylan Hunt, fall into the event horizon of a black hole at the eve of the destruction of the Systems Commonwealth by the treacherous Nietzcheans, a race of genetically engineered superhumans. Retrieved from the black hole by the salvage ship Eureka Maru hundreds of years in the future, with everything he knew gone, Captain Hunt and the crew of the Maru embark on a journey to restore the Systems Commonwealth and bring order to the galaxy once more.
Best known among science fiction aficionados for being somewhat spotty in its quality, Andromeda nevertheless managed to last through five seasons, the last of which was aired entirely on the Sci Fi Channel.
