He is the son of Kendall Hart Slater and Ryan Lavery. He was born three weeks early. He was supposes to be Greenlee Smythe and Ryan Lavery's son.

Spike was an only child between his parents's family, until Emma and Annie learn that Ryan fathered Emma Lavery. His mother learned that she was pregnant with Zach's second child Ian Slater and gave birth to him while Greenlee Smythe almost kidnapped him but changed her mind.
