The Electric Company is an educational comedy that airs on PBS stations starting in January 2009. It is based on the original 1970s version of The Electric Company. It is set in a natural foods diner nestled in the city. Four friends of mixed ages and ethnicities meet at this diner as part of a problem solving task force that is solved through words. Throughout the show, there is a butcher who chops words into their sounds. There is also a shock secret agent, a music man that helps with letters and their sounds through song, and a man in a bugsuit who sings about various things. Sean Kingston makes an appearance in an episode, as well as broadway actor James Iglehart, and Whoopie Goldberg. Shock is a man who will apear throughout the episodes sounding out certain parts of words and their rhyming components. He also puts words together in the air. An animated "Odd Couple" will also appear acting out what certain words mean. A group of students along with two adults will be singing and dancing sounding out different common sounds through the method of phonics. They will sing and explain silent e, the ow sound, the s sound, and many others through upbeat moves and fun settings. The Electric Company premiered on PBS with a mini-marathon on January 19, 2009 and the weekly version premiered on January 23, 2009.
