Mean World Index
From The TV IV
The Mean World Index is a mathematical analysis of how violent images in the media affect people. The study correlates the content of the programs with the social distribution of viewers, calculating percentages and a numerical index based on the responses of each group. The characteristics taken into account include those portrayed on screen and those traits spread across the audience. These characteristics include race, gender, and economic status (Signorielli 91-100).
