Trivia

  • Futurama takes its name from the 1939 World's Fair exhibit put on by General Motors.
  • The creators developed not just one, but two alien languages which are used throughout the show. (According to commentary from the first season DVD, a total of three languages were created. The third was yet to be cracked as of the DVD release.)
  • The rights to the 30th Century Fox logo were bought by Matt Groening for use on the show. Fox initially did not want Groening to use the logo but later recanted.
  • The reason why the series is set in the year 3000 is mostly practical. Because the setting is so far in the future, the writers felt that they could justify any absurd advancement in technology as being the natural course of invention and science over the years. This also allowed for the destruction shown in the pilot episode that set up the location of New New York.
